A Model UN conference is a simulation where students represent countries and debate global issues in a structured, diplomatic setting. Delegates write resolutions, negotiate solutions, and practice public speaking and collaboration. It's a fast-paced experience that builds leadership, global awareness, and communication skills.

Opening Ceremonies

At Project Delegate, the opening ceremonies begin the conference with a clear overview of the weekend’s goals and schedule. Delegates are welcomed by student leaders and hear from speakers who introduce the conference theme and its global relevance. It’s a chance to set the tone, recognize the work that’s gone into planning, and prepare delegates for a productive and focused event.

Duration: 15-20 minutes

Debate the Topic

Debate at Project Delegate takes place through a mix of moderated and unmoderated caucuses. In moderated caucuses, delegates speak in a structured format to share ideas and respond to others, while unmoderated caucuses allow for free movement and informal negotiation between blocs. Both formats are essential for drafting, revising, and building resolution support. Due to Project Delegate's virtual format, these phases will look different than an in-person event. Begin Debate

At the start of debate, the chairs (committee leaders) introduce the agenda items, provide background on the topic, and explain the rules and structure delegates will follow. After this briefing, delegates deliver opening speeches—short, prepared statements that outline their country’s position and priorities. These speeches help set the tone for negotiations and guide the formation of early alliances and blocs.

Duration: 30 min - 1 hour (depends on committee size)

Vote on Resolutions

Once debate concludes, delegates move into voting procedures to decide whether draft resolutions will be adopted. During this formal process, amendments are reviewed, and delegates vote clause by clause or on entire documents, depending on committee rules. This is the final test of a resolution’s strength and support, reflecting the diplomacy and compromise achieved during debate. Resolutions that pass become the committee’s official stance on the issue.

Closing Ceremonies

Closing ceremonies mark the end of the conference. Awards are announced, key moments are highlighted, and student leaders offer final remarks on the weekend’s progress and collaboration. It’s a chance to recognize the effort and growth of every participant. The ceremony closes with a reminder that the skills and ideas developed here extend far beyond the committee room, and time to network with other delegates if desired.
